Welcome to South Mississippi Linux Users Group

SMLUG is a group of computer and technology enthusiasts that meets once a month to promote the free and open philosophy and to share ideas and knowledge. Linux is a free and open source operating system developed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). The GNU General Public License is intended to guarantee your freedom to share and change all versions of a program and to make sure it remains free software for all its users. If you have an interest in learning Linux as a career, or just for personal use, attend the next meeting to find out what the group has to offer.

What's happening at the meetings

The SMLUG will be holding open discussions on Linux, free, and open source related topics. Member's are encouraged to share topics and projects, if possible a short hands-on demo would be informative and welcomed. Our meetings are free and open to public.

The SMLUG will be resuming its meetings for 2020. For the January meeting will be starting the year off by holding a discussion on SSL certificates. Also, start the year off by inviting someone new to our meetings. It shouldn't matter if the person is new to Linux or an experienced Linux user. Let people in the area know who we are and what we can offer them.

A challenge has been presented to the members of the SMLUG to create a short sales pitch for people who are unfamiliar with Linux and explain why Linux would make a good alternative to Mac, Windows, or even Android. So far, one person has stepped up to the challenge. Will there be more?
